If you're new to strength training, work with a trainer or other fitness specialist to learn correct form and technique. It's important to use proper technique in strength training to avoid injuries. ![]() ![]() However, our cod will not be that far gone, and it will be perfect for recipes calling upon it. Cod that had been preserved in this way, which had lasted years in storage, was so dry and tough that it had to be soaked, beaten, soaked, and beaten many times to make it edible. Now this might seem totally counter-productive, but we cannot replicate the taste or texture of a dish calling for salted cod unless we actually do the salting and drying process first. Note On Eating Salt Cod: After all the trouble of salting and drying our cod, when we actually come to eating salt cod, either on its own, or used as an ingredient, we must first soak it for two days in clean water (replacing the water at least twice) to re-hydrate it and wash out some of the excess salt. What we get at the end of the process is a fish that has shrunk in size and weight (with the loss of water) and has become slightly hard and inflexible. Note On Preparing Salt Cod: We can do it in the traditional way, it does not take a great deal more effort, (this is the way we do it) or we can use modern equipment, and leave the cod in the oven for 36 hours on a very low heat setting to dry it out – note we are not cooking the fish, just replicating the drying out process. A report from the English parliament, dated 1415, states that English vessels had by that time been sailing to the Icelandic fishing grounds for six or seven years, and on that basis, English fishermen could therefore claim a traditional ‘title’ to them English merchants and fisherman began sailing to Iceland in great numbers to catch or buy cod from the late 1300’s. Many British fishermen would salt cod, to have food in the winter months, when fishing became too dangerous, and to sell to places in land, where the demand for it was high. The reasons why it was so popular as a food source was because Salt cod had three main merits for the people 1) it is a very simple and cost effective way of preserving the fish 2) it was capable of long-term storage, for seasonal hard times when fresh food was scarce and 3) when the Christian Church gained in influence it was an acceptable food for the many fasting days decreed by the Church, days when the flesh of animals (meat) was forbidden. ![]() ![]() ![]() It could then be sold inland or exported. While cod, caught and preserved right by the coast, was prepared and then just hung up to dry over a longer period, the salt in the air was enough to preserve the fish. The most traditional method of salting the cod was to cover it in salt for a few days, and then it was dried outdoors by the wind and sun, either on rocks, or on a wooden rack, and then it was stored in wooden barrels – cod can be kept for many years this way – before being soaked to regain moisture, washed to remove the salt, and then used as an ingredient in stews etc. It is a great way of keeping a stock of nutritious food as a supply through the lean times, and most people, unless living by the coast, would only experience fish in their diet through this preserved process fresh fish being unable to be kept long enough for it to be transported any great distance in land. Salt cod, (or salted cod) had been a mainstay of the British and Irish diet from before the Dark Ages to the Georgian period. ![]() ![]() ![]() Heard as the PC Babies were in Spinny Mountain Records get upset about the things that are politically wrong in their thoughts.Heard twice again when they're upset about the new viaduct being financed by a state rather than a county institution because a state refused to finance a proposed program on race-relation education as they see it as hypocritical.Heard twice when they're upset as they cry about certain drink descriptions.Heard thrice again while they make a huge mess in Strong Woman's living room as PC Principal is sitting on the couch wearing a Buddha Box on his head before Strong Woman takes it off of his head, and then goes to the bathroom as Strong Woman puts on the Buddha Box on her head. ![]()

Inventory Turnover Ratio ExplainedĬalculating and tracking inventory turnover helps businesses make smarter decisions in a variety of areas, including pricing, manufacturing, marketing, purchasing and warehouse management. Knowing your turnover ratio depends on effective inventory control, also known as stock control, where the company has good insight into what it has on hand. A higher ratio is more desirable than a low one as a high ratio tends to point to strong sales. The turnover ratio is derived from a mathematical calculation, where the cost of goods sold is divided by the average inventory for the same period. The formula can also be used to calculate the number of days it will take to sell the inventory on hand. ![]() The inventory turnover ratio is the number of times a company has sold and replenished its inventory over a specific amount of time. Conversely, a higher ratio can indicate insufficient inventory on hand, and a lower one can indicate too much inventory in stock. A higher ratio tends to point to strong sales and a lower one to weak sales. The inventory turnover ratio is calculated by dividing the cost of goods by average inventory for the same period.Inventory turnover is the rate that inventory stock is sold, or used, and replaced.Inventory includes all goods, raw or finished, that a company has in stock with the intent to sell. For example, consumer packaged goods (CPG) usually have high turnover, while very high-end luxury goods, such as luxury handbags, typically see few units sold per year and long production times.Ī number of inventory management challenges can affect turnover they include changing customer demand, poor supply chain planning and overstocking. Successful companies usually have several inventory turnovers per year, but it varies by industry and product category. One complete turnover of inventory means the company sold the stock that it purchased, less any items lost to damage or shrinkage. ![]() Inventory turnover refers to the amount of time that passes from the day an item is purchased by a company until it is sold. Conversely, a low ratio indicates weak sales, lackluster market demand or an inventory glut.Įither way, knowing where the sales winds blow will inform how to set your company’s sails. A high ratio implies strong sales or insufficient inventory to support sales at that rate. Turnover ratio also reveals a lot about a company’s forecasting, inventory management and sales and marketing expertise. That inventory turnover calculation informs everything from pricing strategy and supplier relationships to promotions and the product lifecycle. Generally, however, items drift along somewhere in the middle, meaning all companies need a handle on what’s moving and how quickly. ![]() Other times, you can’t discount deeply enough. Using salted butter or adding some sea salt to the mix is also a nice touch to make this a salted caramel treat. You can use other fruits like pears, peaches or plums to change it up. Golden delicious or gala apples work well too you just need something that won’t dissolve into applesauce after cooking. You can use any type of firm apple, but I like to use granny smiths because the tartness gives a nice contrast to the sweet caramel. You can smugly tell your guests you slaved for hours over this one while they “oooh” and “ahhh” over your efforts. The best part? It’s very fast to put together, requires little actual baking skill and is incredibly forgiving if you’re prone to making mistakes. I love making this dessert because not only is it seriously tasty, but it also has a visual wow factor with the apples prettily arranged around the top. After burning the filling by mistake, they served the caramelized apple dessert to guests anyway, and it was a big hit. As the story goes, sisters Stephanie and Caroline Tatin invented the tarte tatin, an upside-down caramel apple tart , at their hotel while trying to make a regular old apple pie. And they can even sometimes manage to stumble upon this stuff by accident. Put it to one side for a few minutes, so the caramel can cool down, then divide it up and serve with a spoonful of creme fraiche or ice cream. The French really have the whole fine living thing figured out. Put the board or plate on top of the pan, then quickly, carefully and confidently turn it out (remember you can go to and see a video of how to do this safely). So get a serving plate or board larger than your pan and put an oven glove on to protect the arm holding the board. To make it look like a tarte Tatin you need to turn it out, which isn't hard - but you do need to be careful with that hot caramel. Bake the tarte Tatin for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden, with crispy caramelly pieces bubbling up from under the edges. Quickly and carefully tuck the pastry down right into the edges - it's best to use a wooden spoon so you don't touch the caramel. Add the cubed butter, then lay the pastry over the top. Carefully stir everything in the pan and cook for about 5 minutes or until the apples start to soften and you get a toffee apple vibe happening. Once the caramel looks and smells delicious - it should be a lovely chestnut brown - add your halved apples. Let the sugar dissolve and cook until the mixture forms a light caramel. Put the ovenproof pan on a medium heat and add the sugar, Calvados, vanilla seeds, and pod. Peel your apples, then halve them horizontally and use a teaspoon to get rid of the seeds and core. This will be enough to cover the ovenproof frying pan you'll be cooking the tarte Tatin in, leaving about 2 inches/5 cm extra around the edge. Dust a clean surface and a rolling pin with flour and roll out your puff pastry until it's just over 1/4-inch/0.5cm thick. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F/190 degrees C/gas 5. ![]() |
